چکیده مقاله:

Understanding dependence structure and relationship between two sets of variables is of main interest in statistics. When encountering two large sets of variables, a researcher can express the relationship between the two sets by extracting only finite linear combinations of the original variables that produce the largest correlations with the second set of variables. When data are continuous functions of another variable (generally time), the methods of multivariate analysis can not be applied to the data. Therefore, some theoretical justification is needed to provide the required definitions and concepts regarding the essential nature of the data. This leads to difining canonical correlation for pairs of random functions called functional canonical correlation (FCCA). If the data related to functional phenomena, are observed discretely, the first task is to convert these observations to appropriate curves. This is due to functional nature of the phenomena that the data related to. On the other hand, the functional quantity of interest may be measured with error. In such cases, we should first remove the observational error bay taking a smoothing procedure to account. In this paper, Iranian weather data, collected in 2006, are treated by using FCCA. The data set contains discret measurments of three phenomena: temperature, humidity and precipitation and was collected from 102 weather stations. we have fitted continuous curves to the original data, and then extrated the correlation patterns between each pair of the three phenomena.

Functional Partial Canonical Correlation

A rigorous derivation is provided for canonical correlations and partial canonical correlations for certain Hilbert space indexed stochastic processes. The formulation relies on a key congruence mapping between the space spanned by a second order, H-valued, process and a particular Hilbert function space deriving from the process’ covariance operator. The main results are obtained via an applic...

Generalization of Canonical Correlation Analysis from Multivariate to Functional Cases and its related problems

In multivariate cases, the aim of canonical correlation analysis (CCA) for two sets of variables x and y is to obtain linear combinations of them so that they have the largest possible correlation. However, when x and y are continouse functions of another variable (generally time) in nature, these two functions belong to function spaces which are of infinite dimension, and CCA for them should b...

Canonical correlation analysis for functional data

Classical canonical correlation analysis seeks the associations between two data sets, i.e. it searches for linear combinations of the original variables having maximal correlation. Our task is to maximize this correlation, and is equivalent to solving a generalized eigenvalue problem. The maximal correlation coefficient (being a solution of this problem) is the first canonical correlation coef...

The canonical correlation between Contingencies self-worth and adjustment of students

This research aimed at studying the canonical correlation between Contingencies self-worth (Family support, Competition, Appearance, God’s love, Academic competence, Virtue, Approval from others) with adjustment (emotional, Social and academic). In order of this research, 221 university students were selected by random ratio sampling method (1272 cases). Data was gathered through contingencies ...

Exploring the Relationship between two Compositions using Canonical Correlation Analysis

The aim of this article is to describe a method for relating two compositions which combines compositional data analysis and canonical correlation analysis (CCA), and to examine its main statistical properties. We use additive log-ratio (alr) transformation on both compositions and apply standard CCA to the transformed data. We show that canonical variates are themselves log-ratios and log-cont...
